I first began writing just for fun when we went to Southeast Asia in 1979. I wrote a travelogue of sorts and enjoyed the production of longer pieces so much that two years later when I went to France for the first time. I did another. Not every trip to France has been recorded, but a couple have, and I had great fun doing them. They also serve to remind me that travel itself is not always fun, and that sometimes it can be piercingly lonely.
